Temple Hillel
Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Children of thirteen are eligible to be
Bar or Bat Mitzvah, provided they have
fulfilled the Temple's requirements.

Eligibility for Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Scheduling

Students in our Hebrew School, or who attended a Hebrew Day/School—and whose parents are members of Temple Hillel in good standing—are eligible for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony.
Bar Mitzvahs are normally scheduled on Saturday morning. Bat Mitzvahs are normally scheduled for a Friday night. Sunday mornings are available in conjunction with our caterer.

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah date is determined by the Rabbi—and is based on the child’s Hebrew birth date—approximately two years in advance. In the event another date is requested by the family, it can be changed to an alternate date, with the following provisions: a Bar Mitzvah cannot take place before a boy’s 13th birthday; a Bat Mitzvah may be at any time after a girl's 12th birthday—as long as she is in Kitah Hay and both she and her parents pledge that she will complete the academic year.
