Eligibility for Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Scheduling
Students in our Hebrew School, or who attended a Hebrew Day/Schooland whose parents are members of Temple Hillel in good standingare eligible for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony.
Bar Mitzvahs are normally scheduled on Saturday morning. Bat Mitzvahs are normally scheduled for a Friday night. Sunday mornings are available in conjunction with our caterer.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah date is determined by the Rabbiand is based on the childs Hebrew birth dateapproximately two years in advance. In the event another date is requested by the family, it can be changed to an alternate date, with the following provisions: a Bar Mitzvah cannot take place before a boys 13th birthday; a Bat Mitzvah may be at any time after a girl's 12th birthdayas long as she is in Kitah Hay and both she and her parents pledge that she will complete the academic year.
Educational Requirements
Every child must have had a minimum five (5) years of formal Jewish education comparable to that offered at Temple Hillel.
At a minimum, each child studies a Haftorah, which varies from week to week and therefore will be instructed on an individual basis. This instruction for all Bar/Bat Mitzvah students is given at Temple Hillel by our Bar/Bat Mitzvah instructor.
For students in our Hebrew School, this instruction will take place outside of regular class time.
Students must attend a minimum of 80% of their Religious School classes during their Bar/Bat Mitzvah year.
