Temple Hillel Religious School

Ellen Shifrin, Educational Director

The Temple Hillel Religious School is a five year school, meeting three days a week for a total of six hours a week.

Members’ children, upon reaching eight years of age, or in the third grade of public school, are required to enter the Alef (1st) year Hebrew School class. The aim of the school is primarily to introduce the child to the skill and knowledge necessary for Jewish living in home and synagogue — and participate in the Jewish community.

Courses of Study
The course of study includes the following: Language, Bible, Jewish Life and Observances, and History of the Jewish People. Integrated with Hebrew and Judaism is a Music Program and the study of Israel, supplementing the course of study with a variety of extra-curricular programs.
As part of our school program, we offer a
Mechina (preparatory) program for children in kindergarten, first and second grades — which meets every Sunday morning for approximately two hours. Our primary aim in the Mechina
program is creating a pleasurable and satisfactory orientation to Jewish group life for the child. The program is also designed to develop a readiness to participate in those aspects of Jewish life which the child can appreciate.
