President's Monthly Message

The Senior Luncheon was magnificent! All the glowing reports are in. Harriet Laveman, Sonia Reichman and Irene Perl and their army of helpers really know how to throw a party. It really is a miracle and a mitzvah to perform such a wonderful service for these local seniors.

The night was rainy. The service was inspiring. The desserts were amazing (and fattening!). Our Annual Sisterhood Shabbat was fabulous! Gaylann and Renee planned a meaningful and memorable service and a delectable Oneg. It was a great opportunity to participate in a Shabbat Service. Seeing and hearing a Mother and her daughter(s) performing Friday night prayers gave us even more inspiration. It is really beautiful how this special service has become an intergenerational event for some of us. Special thanks to Rabbi Graber and Reb Blitz for being there and participating. And very, very special thanks to all the women who participated and their families and guests who all braved the storm and shared this experience with us..

There are always people who make everything they do look so effortless. Each function, meeting or event that they run is done to perfection. We are so fortunate that these are the women who are Sisterhood. Temple Hillel's Sisterhood is not a closed society. We are always looking for and welcoming new members and new ideas. We have so many things going on we can always use the hands. We run a Judaica shop and a food bank,we sell yarmulkas, Shalach Manot, and flowers, we host Israeli dance, a senior luncheon and defensive driving, and we send sunshine and greeting cards. This year we helped raise money for a soup kitchen in Israel by selling The Holocaust Survivor's Cookbook (we still have some available - it is a great gift!). Our meetings included a Succah visit, a fabulous fur fashion show and dinner, a Women's Rosh Chodesh Service, a fascinating lecture about the brain, and bingo. All of these things were possible because of the love and devotion of our members.  We have many exciting meetings , functions and events planned for 2008-2009. If you have an idea for a meeting or an event--do not be shy. We would love to have you join us.

Watch your mail for our first meeting in September with a surprise guest!

Howard, Jason and I wish everyone a great summer. If you travel  upstate this summer call me.

                                                          See you in September.

                                                          In Sisterhood,

                                                             Gail
