Temple Hillel
              and

  UJA

Temple Hillel is proud to be a leading supporter of UJA on Long Island--- not only financially, but also with time and love devoted to projects that help people directly. These include:

ARTS & CRAFTS SUPPLIES

FOR THE SUNRISE DAY CAMP

“The only day camp on the East Coast for children with cancer”

In keeping with Temple Hillel’s exemplary record of participating in Mitzvot and Tzedakah, we have a new project and challenge to fulfill.  On Wednesday, May 3, 2006 we will be honoring Holly & Neil Bobrow at our annual UJA Federation dinner, and we would love for you to attend as we honor such a deserving couple.  In addition, Temple Hillel will be collecting arts and crafts supplies for children who will be attending The Barry and Florence Friedberg Jewish Community Center’s “new” Sunrise Day Camp – the first and only day camp on the East Coast for children with cancer.  We have set up a collection bin at the school entrance for your convenience, or you can bring the supplies on the evening of the dinner.  Please choose from this suggested list:

Ø   Liquid tempura paint,

Ø   Bristle, foam, or easy grip paint brushes

Ø   Fabric markers, fabric paint

Ø   Crayons, construction paper

Ø   Lanyard lace spools, yarn

Please contribute generously, thank you.

Food Bank: In conjunction with UJA, Sisterhood is now starting its second year of collecting kosher, non-perishable food for distribution to needy Jewish families in our own area. Last year was a rousing success as our members and the children in our Religious School brought at least one item with them every time they came into the Temple. With the cooperation of you, our members and our school children, we look forward to doing even better this year

Dress for Success: This program supports men and women coming off welfare who are looking for a job, but do not have appropriate clothing to even go on an interview. In the year 2000, our members filled the Temple coat room twice with business-appropriate clothing---coats, suits, dresses, sports jackets, blazers, trousers, slacks, skirts, shirts, ties, and blouses.

Sisterhood is planning to hold another drive in early November. Please watch for announcements.

Lawrence House: A residence for developmentally challenged adults located in Lawrence, Long Island. Our Men's Club has "adopted" the residence---and holds Bar-B-Qs, plants flowers, hosts a Hanukkah party, and in general tries to bring a little more light, joy and Jewishness into the lives of these people.
